History Of The PicIo Chip

Once MicroChip started making very inexpensive single chip microcomputers that had onboard USB hardware it became clear this was a very nice package on which to base any number of kool projects.

What was soon discovered by myself and perhaps many other developers  it that it is a fairly complex task requireing many hours to just get the darn thing to run using USB as the PC to device connection.  There is the code itself in the Pic Microcomputer as well as the host PC code with all the complex interactions of the driver that allows communications with the Pic microcomputer over USB.

PicIo Chip is my attempt to take all of this complexity and development time out of that formula so that a much larger number of hobby projects and small little devices could be easily developed with as little as possible effort and technical understanding on the part of the end designer.   This allows the 'real' project to get going far quicker and with much less pain.

PicIo Chip is currently based on  the one-time programmable  Pic16C745-1/SP microcomputer or the programmable Pic16C745/JW.  A PicIo Chip contains internal smarts and acts as a server to USB commands comming in from the PicIoApi.Dll so that all the complexity of these complicated codesets are hidden from the end developer.    The code is lean and mean and runs at a fast rate so that the end developers project can be as efficient as possible.

So let's just get to the fun part of the projects and not loose all our creative energy in the frustrations of the detailed lower level code.

Have fun and Pic your way to many kool  projects!
